PRESS RELEASE

European Transport to Welcome 2,000 Brazilian Truck Drivers in 2026: South America Emerges as a New Recruitment Market

Brazil – As traditional driver recruitment markets become increasingly limited, European logistics and transport companies are turning their attention to South America. Industry experts predict that more than 2,000 Brazilian truck drivers will be recruited to work in Europe this year, particularly in countries such as Poland and Lithuania.

Recruitment

With instability continuing in several regions worldwide and traditional recruitment source markets such as India and the Philippines becoming more restricted, logistics companies are seeking new talent pools to maintain the flow of goods across the continent.

Industry leaders emphasize that carrier owners should avoid relying on a single recruitment market, especially in a sector currently facing a shortage of qualified drivers.

“South American truck drivers are highly experienced and accustomed to travelling long distances, often in difficult road conditions,” explains Marcelo Toledo, owner of M/Brazil Agency, an international recruitment company operating in Brazil since 1990.

“Economically, it makes sense for both sides. Brazilian drivers bring dedication, resilience and a strong work ethic that can add passion and spirit to European transport companies.”

According to Toledo, his agency has signed recruitment agreements with 17 European transport companies, which together are expected to hire more than 2,000 Brazilian drivers in 2026.

Growing Demand from Europe

Toledo notes that demand for South American drivers is rising rapidly across several European countries, including Spain, Germany, Austria, Poland and Lithuania.

Another important factor is that around 5% of Brazilian drivers already hold European passports, significantly simplifying and accelerating the hiring process for many companies.

“We receive approximately 10,000 résumés every month from drivers interested in working abroad,” Toledo said.

“Our biggest challenge is explaining all the working conditions in Europe and matching each driver with the right company. To achieve this, we organize online job fairs connecting European transport companies with Brazilian drivers.”

Success Stories

One example of this growing trend is Afonso Pereira, a Brazilian truck driver currently working for Transport Logistica in Austria, where he has been employed for the past two years.

“I am very happy working here and I want to remain with the same company for many years,” Pereira said. “The living conditions and salary are much better than in Brazil, and the experience has been extremely positive.”

Another success story is Alexandro Silva, the first Brazilian driver recruited for Hegelmann in Lithuania more than a year ago. Before arriving in Europe, he had never seen snow. During his time working in Lithuania, he also had the opportunity to welcome his wife and son, who visited him during the last summer.

At Cargogo, Brazilian driver André Funes has been working for nine months and was able to fulfill a personal dream by bringing his wife to Europe for a 15-day visit.

“It was our honeymoon after 15 years of marriage,” he explained.

With the ongoing driver shortage across Europe, recruitment experts believe South America — and Brazil in particular — could become one of the most important new sources of professional drivers for the European transport sector in the coming years.
